PODCAST: ScrappyGull 004: Simple Rules For Guests
After doing some client work this past week, I bring up some simple rules for recording and editing guests on your podcast.
Get the guest close to the mic.
I avoid plosive sounds and a hard attack on the microphone by putting my cheek parallel to the windscreen, so that I’m speaking across the mic, not directly into it.
If your mic is on a table, ask guests to refrain from banging the table. Also, use coasters if you have drinks in the studio.
Pet Sounds is a great album, but not a great thing to have to edit out of your audio. Move pets away if possible.
Edit out crutch words like Um, Er, Ah, if you can do it without interrupting the flow of speech.
Tighten up pauses.
Rule of Thumb: Edit out stuttered sentences if you can do it and not erase context. You should strive to make sure guest and host don’t sound like idiots.
